Lightening Up the Roof
Say good-bye to heavy asphalt roofing shingles and say hello to ArmorLite, a new roofing system that's up to eight times lighter than traditional roofing materials such as asphalt, concrete, clay or wood, yet is more weather-resistant and more durable. While the average roof can weigh as much as 30,000 pounds, an ArmorLite roof weighs about 3,500 pounds, or about 70 pounds per 100 square feet.
Composed of two types of polymers, including a recyclable polymer material called Geloy XTW (for extreme weatherability) from GE Plastics, ArmorLite can withstand the most extreme climatic conditions, including high winds, earthquakes and fires. It also provides insulation and has a high heat reflectivity, so it helps reduce residential heating and cooling costs. It resists rot, mold and mildew as well.
In addition, ArmorLite is eco-friendly. It's 100 percent recyclable and uses fewer resources during its manufacture, when compared to other roofing materials. Plus, it requires less energy to ship to the building site, saving costs.
ArmorLite is available in a variety of colors, textures and designs, such as slate and wood, and can be created in custom designs such as seashells. And because it is manufactured in 2-by-4-foot panels, it installs faster with up to 70 percent fewer nails. For more information: 714-835-7575 or www.armorliteroofing.com .
